Why I should Vote to Re-Elect Mayor Wong:
Fitchburg has a strong leader in Mayor Lisa Wong who is willing to make tough decisions for the good of the whole community. Mayor Wong has demonstrated those leadership skills and continues to fight hard every day on behalf of each member of the Fitchburg community
Finance:
In a time of economic uncertainty and turbulence, Mayor Wong is fiscally conservative and made strategic investments. She has balanced the budget, while minimizing cuts to services and saving public safety jobs. The bond rating, which is the rating of the town’s credit, has been raised three times under her leadership, leading to far greater financial stability for Fitchburg. A Capital Commission was created to form a multi-year plan that has resulted in major savings to the city, and major capital investments, such as new boilers and roofs in almost every school.
Education:
Mayor Wong has fought to improve all the schools in Fitchburg: through physical improvements such as replacing the roofs and boilers, through ranking improvements such as the declining drop-out rate and raised test scores, as well as the feel of the schools for the students through the restoration of middle school sports, the addition of more arts and after school programs for all students, and the new teen health center in the high school.
Economic Development:
Mayor Wong has helped to bring new business to down town, focused on attracting developers to Fitchburg and the old historic buildings, and repositioned Fitchburg as a place to grow businesses versus outsourcing overseas. She has saved manufacturing jobs and is publicly the face of Fitchburg that businesses trust because of her strong background in economic development and as past head of the Redevelopment Authority.
Modernization:
Mayor Wong created an IT department to allow technology to be a major driver in Fitchburg’s economic development, drive more efficient data services for departments such as police and fire, and to better communicate with the citizens of Fitchburg. She also developed a capital plan allowing for a clear vision for the city, which hadn’t happened since the early 80s.
Environment:
Mayor Wong has long fought for the beautification of Fitchburg and is well known for her dedication of thousands of acres of land into conservation, as well as the beautification and continued development of the riverfront.
